Enrolment

Enrolment for all students takes place after GCSE results are published in August. Students will be notified about enrolment times at the end of the Summer Term.

Entry Requirements

To be accepted into HSLC Sixth Form to study 3 A-Levels or other Level 3 Qualifications, you must have 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4, including English Language and Maths. There are additional entry requirements for individual courses; you can find this information within each course section on the courses page. Please Click here for the subject specific entry requirements. If you have any questions then Contact the Sixth Form team for more information.

What if I don't get Grade 4 in English or Maths?

On results day you will have a 1-2-1 interview with the Sixth Form Team who will make the decision as to whether you can be accepted on an individual basis. You will still need 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4. You will need to re-sit the required English or Maths GCSE, and you may be limited in the number of A-Levels you can take.

What if I want to study 4 A-Levels or BTECs?

You should make this intention clear on the intentions form and discuss this in your Sixth Form interview in Year 11. You will need 5 GCSEs Grade 9-7, alongside consent from the relevant Curriculum Leaders.

What if I don't get 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4?

You will have a 1-2-1 interview with the Sixth Form Team who will make the decision as to whether you can be accepted into the Sixth Form. The number of A - Levels or BTECs you can study may be limited - both due to timetabling and the course requirements of other subjects.

Financial Support

  •  The 16-19 bursary fund is paid by the Education Funding Agency and exists to help students continue with and complete their course where they would otherwise be prohibited from doing so on financial grounds.
The Bursary is intended to help with the hardship needs of the individual students. Generally, it will be used towards essential course related cost such as books, equipment, travel, field trips, visits and other costs associated with living and learning. The school will seek to ensure that the funds available are

    • Distributed fairly
    • Allocated by individual need, taking into account the financial circumstances of the applicant

Careers Guidance

  • At Hornsea Sixth Form, we aim to prepare our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. Careers education and guidance is an essential part of this process, so we ensure that our students have access to a relevant programme of support, as well as face-to-face guidance from an independent, professionally-qualified careers adviser.

To support these activities, we have a range of resources in our library and study area and can provide access to information on local opportunities for work, volunteering, education and apprenticeships.

We are keen to see our pupils move into post-18 choices that suit their skills, interests, personality, values and which take account of their motivations. Pupils are encouraged to consider what is important to them and increase their self-awareness through mentoring and tutorials. The programme enables pupils to develop their personal insight, careers knowledge and develop career planning and management skills.

You can find contact information and an overview of our Careers Programme on our main Careers Page.

Students have the opportunity to meet with a careers adviser if they are in particular need of support. At this time, they can talk about their ideas for the future, explore the range of options after they leave school and plan the steps to achieve their end goal. Pupils can expect advice and guidance that is personalised, comprehensive and impartial.

We aim to enable our Students to make informed choices about their future learning and career pathways including apprenticeships.

  • All Year 12 students will participate in our Futures Event where they will have the opportunity to find out about all the options available to them once they have completed their Sixth Form studies – this will include information on Apprenticeships, Further Education, University, Employment and a range of Career choices.

Students will also have the opportunity to take a week of work experience to help give them the experience they need to support their choices after Sixth Form.

  • Not everyone wants to go to university after leaving school. Apprenticeships are recognised schemes that introduce you to a particular trade, and provide you with a wage and training to work towards a qualification to help prepare you for a career.

Apprenticeships  now exist in numerous  industries from construction, engineering and healthcare, to business, finance, retail and media. Plus many more.

Apprentices train and work alongside experienced staff while studying for nationally recognised qualifications. They take between one and four years to complete.

There are over 100,000 employers offering Apprenticeships in more than 160,000 locations, and more than 200 different types of Apprenticeships available. The types of company offering an apprenticeship varies from BMW and Orange, to smaller local companies.

It is also possible to do an Apprenticeship, and to go to University later in life or to undertake a degree level of qualification whilst doing an apprenticeship.  For further information on Apprenticeships you can speak to any of the 6th Form Team, our Careers Advisor or visit these websites:

•help students with careers decisions and planning

•support students in reviewing their skills and abilities and develop new goals

•motivate students to implement their plan of action

•enable students to make the best use of high quality career related tools.

Whatever the students' situation, whatever the barriers, the National Careers Service is there to help students overcome them and reach their potential.

The service also realises that jobs these days need more skills and qualifications. This means making the right decisions about students' learning and development is more important than ever. Transport

Information

There is no statutory obligation for Local Authorities to provide transport to students accessing
Post-16 education providers. At HSLC Sixth Form we recognise that this can become a barrier for students to access the education provider of their choice. Therefore the governors approved a budget for a reimbursement scheme which allows students to apply for a partial reimbursement towards the cost of a bus pass. The current cost of a ERYC bus pass is £600.00, which can be paid monthly on a direct debit scheme. The HSLC reimbursement scheme offers up to a maximum of £380 over the academic year. Sixth Form students are also able to purchase a bus pass for HS001, HS002 or HS003 which are the buses provided by HSLC  for out of catchment students and is subject to the same reimbursement terms.

For more information, please visit the Financial Support Section of the Sixth Form website.
