Students studying A-Level Law will gain insight into various aspects of the legal system, including law-making processes, the nature of law, criminal law, tort law, and contract law. Throughout the course, students will develop essential skills such as applying legal rules and principles to construct arguments, as well as analysing and evaluating legal issues and concepts.

A-Level Law offers a comprehensive introduction to the subject, allowing students to explore a field that deeply influences many facets of life.

In Year 12 students will learn about how ideas for new laws become a reality. Students will learn in detail about the law making process and the scrutiny which every Bill is under. In addition to this you will learn about pressures on Parliament and how this can impact on the laws which are passed, whether it is a public enquiry like Grenfell or a shocking news story like the ‘Baby P’ case all the media we consume will in some way impact on Parliament’s motives to make new laws. Students will also learn about Tort law and its importance within negligence, students find this particularly interesting as they can apply the legal principles covered during this topic to their everyday lives. The last topic which will be covered in Year 12 is English Legal System; students are given the opportunity to look at the finer details of how our legal system works, roles within legal sectors, the roles of juries and the jurisdiction of the criminal and civil courts are all included in this area of study.

In Year 13 students will study Criminal Law and Contract Law, students will be expected to be able to evaluate each area within the law as well as applying the theory they have covered to scenario questions. Lastly, we look at Further Law; this examines theories of law and the history of our legal system.
