Parent Governor Vacancy

I am writing to seek nominations from parents willing to serve on the school governing body. A ‘parent’ for the purpose of the election is a person with ‘Parental Responsibility’, as defined in the Children’s Act 1989, and includes married parents, mothers of non-marital children and divorced or separated parents. It may also include unmarried fathers, who may acquire parental responsibility by agreement with the mother or by means of a court order. Guardians, non-parents in respect of whom a residence order is made and local authorities in respect of which a care order is made may also acquire parental responsibility. A parent governor must have a child in the school.

There are circumstances which disqualify parents from standing for election to the Governing Body, but not from proposing or voting for candidates. In brief these are where a person has been adjudged bankrupt or has been convicted of a criminal offence during the last 5 years for which a prison sentence (suspended or not) for a period of not less than 3 months, without the option of a fine, was imposed. In addition if a parent is employed to work at the school for more than 500 hours per year, then they are not eligible to stand for election or appointment as a parent governor.

For the purpose of proposing candidates a nomination slip is attached. This should be completed and returned to school by those parents wishing to make nominations. Those parents nominated and seconded and who have indicated their willingness to stand for election by signing the nomination slip, may submit brief biographical details (maximum of 100 words) for circulation with ballot papers.

At this stage of the process the nomination slip should either;

a) be posted to the school and marked Election Nominee in the top left hand corner of the envelope.

b) be handed to the school reception by you or your son/daughter, and marked Election Nominee in the top left hand corner of the envelope.

c) be e-mailed to the school via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with Election Nominee as the subject.

I look forward to receiving your nominations. I will provide further information and ballot papers, if required, in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Mr S.Ostler

6th Form Transport Arrangements June

19th June 2014

Dear Parent/Carer

I write to confirm arrangements for the provision of transport for sixth form students for the academic year September 2014 to July 2015.

Students who live outside of Hornsea but in our catchment and who had indicated their intention to attend our sixth form as future students by 26th March 2014 (i.e. as a part of the admissions process) will be entitled to apply for re-imbursement of £540.00

The school will initially reimburse £360.00 upon receipt of the completed Application for Reimbursement Form with appropriate “proof of purchase” for an annual bus pass for one of the current home/school transport providers. If parents/carers choose to make payments by Direct Debit reimbursements will be made accordingly, details of this are found on the application for reimbursement form which can be found on HSLC website on the Sixth form page. Please note applications must be returned to the school by 15th September 2014.

Students eligible to a bursary payment (please see our website for eligibility criteria and application details) may choose to use this method to meet the remaining £180.00 of cost.

Students who are not eligible for a bursary payment will be reimbursed at a rate of £60.00 per term, payable at the end of each of the three terms making up an academic year. This will only be payable under the following conditions.

1. The student travels to and from school by bus (not car) as their main means of transportation

2. The student is complying with their learning agreement.

3. The students’ attendance is no lower than 95%.

In an attempt to be helpful I have included details of how to apply online for your school bus pass.

Please go to the ERYC website,, apply for paid home to school transport season ticket. Alternatively please contact school transport directly on 01482 395444 option 3.

We will continue to review the success of this initiative over the course of the year. It is our hope that we can maintain this offer into 2015/16 and beyond but do not guarantee to do so.

Yours faithfully

Mr S Lawrence
