Employer Engagement

Careers & Enterprise Company – The Humber Careers Hub

“Every pupil should have multiple opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace.” Good Career Guidance-The Gatsby Foundation

We are one of 7 East Riding secondary school members of the Humber Careers Hub. The Careers Hub was launched in September 2018 by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (Humber LEP) and the Careers & Enterprise Company, a central government funded organisation that works with schools nationally to promote a network between education and employers as well as support for careers education in schools. As a Humber Hub school, we regularly meet with other schools in the region to evaluate and share best practice with regard to careers education

Each term we evaluate our careers programme against the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks, the benchmarks are a framework of 8 guidelines that define the best careers provision in secondary schools.

1 A Stable Careers programme
2 Learning from Labour Market Information
3 Addressing the needs of every student
4 Linking curriculum learning to careers
5 Encounters with employers and employees
6 Experiences of the workplace
7 Encounters with further and higher education
8 Personal Guidance

We are proud to be supporting Hornsea School & Language College in helping to prepare students for the workplace and encouraging new apprenticeships in our area”

Employers Information

At HSLC we work with a range of employers and organisations to help in the delivery of our careers programme. Within our programme there are numerous opportunities to meet and engage in meaningful conversations with employers and employees. We believe that in giving students these opportunities, they will deepen their understanding of the importance of skills, personal qualities and academic success required to be successful in whatever career path they enter.

A few examples of recent employer engagement include:

* HSLC Careers Fair
* Year 9 ‘For Entrepreneurs Only’ Activity Day
* Year 11 & Sixth Form – Meeting with Mr Stephen Downing, Advocate Solicitor
* Year 10-13 – Meeting with Dr Andrew Benest, Cancer Research Scientist
* Year 10 Mock Interviews
* Year 12 ‘Futures Day
