I am a co-opted governor and have been a parent governor for 9 years. We live in Skipsea Brough and have three children; one currently at the school and my daughters are at university having thoroughly enjoyed their sixth form studies, I am a science teacher and currently work as an education guide for Yorkshire Water at their nature reserve at Tophill Low. I am also a wildlife and birdwatching guide working for Yorkshire coast Nature; delivering bespoke nature tours around Yorkshire. I am committed to the education of my children and am delighted that, in Hornsea we have good schools that deliver high quality education. I am very proud of Hornsea School and its achievements and pleased that I can be part of it and be involved in my children’s education. |

Having been a teacher until I retired, education has always been my greatest interest. Originally I became a Hornsea governor when my children were pupils here. I am secretary of two educational charities for young people, one in Leven and one in Beverley. As a governor at HSLC I am a member of the Personnel, Finance, Curriculum and Scrutiny sub-committees. I am particularly interested in curriculum issues - as government cuts bite it becomes more difficult to sustain some of the less popular subjects although these subjects are very important areas of study if the school is to be able to offer a wide and diverse curriculum. For many years I enjoyed being Link governor to the very successful Social Sciences faculty but have now moved to the equally successful Performing Arts Faculty. As the link governor I visit classes in Dance, Drama and Music with students from all year groups and have particularly enjoyed attending various performances including exciting rehearsals for the latest school production. At home I garden, I read, I look after my cats, ducks and chickens and I involve myself in politics. |

Hello my name is Steven Knapton, and I am a co-opted governor. I spent my work life, all 37 years of it as a history teacher at the school. Both of our sons attended the school and Margret my wife and myself both believe they had an excellent education which has enabled them to succeed in their chosen careers. I am a non - stipendiary minister in the united Reformed Church. In my life I have been a parent governor at Hornsea Community School, a staff governor at Hornsea Secondary School and a church appointed governor of a 3-18 Co-ed independent day school. Being a governor is one way of giving back to the school for all that it have given me. Having recently stepped down from being the convenor of our church's Yorkshire children and young people's committee I am aware of some of the challenges our students face today. I think this school does an excellent job of giving students the resilience to be able to cope with many of these challenges. Every child matters is at the heart of what this school tries to do, and I see it a privilege to be a member of the governing body of Hornsea School and Language College. |

I joined HSLC as an employee at the start of the academic year 2005. Along with teaching Mathematics, my main roles in school include SENCO, including oversight of the school's Enhanced Education Resource, along with a responsibility for the Most Able cohort and the Disadvantaged (as defined by Ofsted) cohort. All aspects of the roles involve liaising with all staff (in both a teaching role and a support role) parents/carers and most importantly liaising with the students directly. I feel that this enables me to have a diverse knowledge of how the school operates and the opportunities which are available for the young people who attend HSLC. In addition, I work closely with the feeder primary schools supporting the transfer from Y6 to Y7. Almost all aspects of my role evolve around ensuring the students at HSLC achieve their potential. At HSLC we are committed to providing the highest possible standard of education for all students of all abilities. As a member of the governing body of the school, I hope that I can contribute to this in an active way. |

Having three children who all had successful and stimulating experiences at HSLC I believe an excellent education is important for the future economic and social success of students. For over 20 years I have been managing school finances and I am the Advanced Business Manager at Leven Primary School. In addition I provide one-to-one support to financial teams within schools across the East Riding. Outside of the school environment I am a member of the Wray Trust, an educational charity which provides grants, I am also the Treasurer for the Leven Festival, an annual event enjoyed by all of the village of Leven. |
