Public Services (BTEC Level 2)
Ideally an interest in a career in the uniformed or unformed Public Services will provide the motivation you need to succeed on this course. Even if this is not your intended career path this course will equip you with the skills many employers are looking for.
What will you be learning?
Unit 1: Public Service Skills
Looking at the qualities needed when dealing with the public alongside the importance of being able to work as part of a team. We then focus upon communication skills – verbal, non-verbal, listening, etc.
Unit 4: Career Planning for the Public Services
We investigate the application and selection process within public services. Researching the skills and qualities employers are looking for within a range of public service jobs.
Unit 5: Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services
Learn about healthy lifestyles; exercise and nutrition. To be able to use fitness tests to measure your level of fitness.
One of the following two;
Unit 2 Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
Or Unit 3 Employment in the Non-Uniformed Public Services
These two units look at the roles and responsibilities within public service. Theory content is similar for both units with a change in emphasis between uniformed and non-unformed services.
In year 13 we study an additional three units, these are selected in consultation with the students during year 12 taking account their interests, options include;
- 6 Citizenship, the Individual and Society
- 7 Health and Safety in the Public Service Workplace
- 8 Adventurous Activities and Teamworking for the Public Services
- 9 Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
- 19 Research in Public Services
- 20 Volunteering in Public Services
- 21 ICT and the Public Services
How is it assessed?
There are no entry requirements for this course, just a commitment and enthusiasm for the subject
