Creative Media (BTEC Level 2)

BTEC Creative Media Production

This BTEC Tech Award in Creative Media Production, will give you the chance to develop valuable skills and techniques in different disciplines, produce a practical response to a digital media brief, and explore potential careers in the industry.

The Award gives learners the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge and skills in a practical learning environment. The main focus is on three areas of equal importance, which cover the:

·         knowledge that underpins the effective use of skills, processes and attitudes, including production processes and techniques

·         development of key skills that prove aptitude in creative media production, such as investigating and developing ideas through pre-production, production and post-production of media products

·         processes that underpin effective ways of working in creative media production, such as responding to briefs and feedback, planning and generating ideas.

This course is delivered from the Pearson specification for BTEC Tech Awards. It is aimed at Level 2 learners and is the equivalent of 1 GCSE. You will achieve a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION.

What will you be learning?

Year 12
The course is delivered over 1 year and includes 3 components

Component 1: Exploring Media Products (30%)
You will learn about what media is, and investigate a range of media products both past and present.

Component 2: Developing Digital Media Production Skills (30%)
Throughout this component, you will develop technical skills and techniques of the publishing sector. You will create a magazine front cover or double page spread of your choice based on the production skills and techniques you learn throughout the lessons and practical workshops.

Component 3: Create a Media Product in Response to a Brief (40%)
This is the externally set component completed over 9 1 hour  lessons. You will take what you have learnt throughout components 1 and 2 and create a product based on a brief that is set by the exam board.
