December in the Art Department

'Art with a Heart' is an art group that meet weekly to create their art. They are a charitable organisation and raise money through the exhibition and sale of their work annually at Hornsea Freeport. Jenny Egan (Head of Art) is seen accepting a cheque for £900 and a special commemorative cup which is going to be awarded each year to a chosen 'artist of the year'. She said

'I am thrilled to be receiving this generous donation. The Cup will be a lasting legacy to Mr and Mrs Parry, the founders of the charity. At the request of the charity, £400 will be divided into four separate £100 rewards for the artist of the year, to be presented annually in the summer term, along side the 'Parry' Cup, The remaining funds will be used in a variety of different and worth while ways'.

Megan Norris is an ex student who is currently studying 'Media, make-up, special effects and hair for TV and film' at York University. As part of her course Megan needed to teach some of the skills she has learnt so far on the course. On 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th December a number of year 8 art classes were shown techniques in using prosthetics. They were also given the opportunity to discuss various career opportunities in this industry from working in the BBC to working behind the scenes in the theatre.

Japanese Exchange Students

The Japanese exchange students participated in a year 9 art lesson. As a starter to the lesson the year 9 students were shown how to produce an origami crane. The skill in making origami, demonstrated by the Japansese students, was exceptional. Students were then shown how to use calligraphy to write their own name and Merry Christmas!
