Twilight Bus Service & Twilight Activity Programme
During this Autumn Term, on a Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays, students living in the surrounding villages are supported by the provision of a Twilight Bus Service, which enable them to take part in activities after school and get a free bus home at 5.00pm. On a Monday there is also a limited service to a number of local villages.
The Twilight Bus Service, which is now into its seventh year in operation, has proved to be a great success among both students and parents, and has opened up so many opportunities to the young people who use it.
HSLC aims to support all students and to encourage them to participate fully in the wide variety of after school sports, activity clubs, performing arts, drama, music and study support activities, including access to the Learning Resources Centre and ICT / computer facilities, which we promote through our Twilight Activity Programme each school term.
Free travel to villages in HSLC’s catchment area
The aim of the Twilight Bus Service is to provide free travel to as many Hornsea area/catchment villages as possible. The service is delivered using a combination of an existing commercial bus plus two tailor-made minibus/taxi services that makes up a total of 3-4 routes.
Supporting students from rural areas
As well as providing equality of opportunity for all students and support for working parents, the Twilight Bus Service ensures that students who live in rurally isolated areas are enabled to participate in the many activities on offer. The initiative has had the added environmental benefit of greatly reducing the number of parental car journeys to the school site; a welcome result in these days of global warming!
How the Twilight Bus Service Operates
Students wishing to travel on any of the Twilight Bus routes will need to follow a set procedure that is dependant upon the route they need to take.
For travel to Seaton, Sigglesthorne, Catwick, Leven, Skirlaugh and Long Riston – this route is covered by the existing 240 service route. Students will need to obtain a book of tickets from the Front Office. A ticket should be filled-in with the student’s destination (nearest village and their year/tutor group. A completed ticket should be handed to the bus driver each time a student travels on this Twilight Bus route
For travel to Cowden, Mappleton, Great Hatfield, Withernwick and Aldbrough – this service is provided by an 8-seater local taxi company. Students will need to book a place on this taxi no earlier than 1 week before it is required. A place for this this route can be booked from the Front Office. Any bookings made on the day required, need to be made by 2pm.
For travel to Atwick, Skipsea, Ulrome, Lisett, Barmston, Beeford, Bewholme and Brandesburton – these routes are normally split into two and are delivered by school staff using our own school minibuses. Places for these routes must be booked via the Front Office in order to guarantee a seat. Again any bookings for these routes need to be made by 2pm on the day required and cannot be made more than 1 week in advance.
We ask all students that have booked seats on any of the Twilight Bus routes and then change their mind or no longer require the seat, to let the Front Office know as soon as possible so that their place may be allocated to another student.
HSLC cannot guarantee a seat will be available for a student that does not book in advance and by 2pm on the day required. Any student wishing to use the 240 route without a valid ticket will not be permitted to travel. Twilight Bus Service tickets may only be used on the advertised routes and times.
