Partial Closure 10/07/14

Dear Parent/Carer

I write further to my letter dated 3rd July 2014 regarding the national one day strike taking place on 10th July 2014. It is the case that union members do not need to declare their intentions regarding strike action until the morning of the strike.

As required, a risk assessment has been completed. The consequence of this risk assessment is that Hornsea School and Language College will be partially closed on Thursday 10th July 2014.

The school will be closed to all pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 and therefore pupils in these two year groups should not attend school on Thursday 10th July 2014.

The school will remain open for Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12 students and therefore students in these year groups should attend school as normal. It is our intention to provide a normal timetabled day for students in Year 9 and 12 however please can all students ensure they bring some private study in case this is not possible. All Year 10 students should attend their work experience placements as normal; this includes those that are carrying out their placement within HSLC. Year 10 students who are not on placement should attend school and report to room 35/36 as normal.

There will be a full home to school transport service for Year 9, 10 and 12.

Hornsea School and Language College will be fully open to all students in all year groups on Friday 11th July 2014.

I apologise for the inconvenience arising from the partial closure. Please contact Mrs Thompson, Headteacher’s PA, via the school office if this places you in particular difficulty.

Yours sincerely

Early Closure April 11th

Dear Parent/Carer

The Spring Term now draws to a close and I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have given to us. Our end of term newsletter will follow shortly detailing our news for the term as well as a number of information items for you.

The arrangements for the end of this Term replicate those at the end of the last term. The transport providers will again depart from the school site at 1 pm and I ask that our students, including those who travel on the EYMS 920 bus to Aldbrough, are there in plenty of time. Staff will be on duty as usual to supervise the safe loading. As previously, staff will remain on the site after the 1 pm departure of our students.

As a result, arrangements for Friday 11th April are as follows:-

• The specific arrangements for all years (7 – 13) are:-

Periods 1, 2 and 3 – normal timetabled lessons
12.10 - Period 4 – normal timetable lesson
12.50 – Period 4 ends
1.00 - School closes to all students

If these arrangements cause a particular difficulty then please let me know otherwise may I thank you again for your support and wish you and your family all the best for the Easter break.

The Summer Term for all students begins on Monday 28th April. Please note that this day is NOT a training day and all students are expected to attend.

Yours sincerely

Strike Action Wed 26th March 2014

Dear Parent/Carer

I write further to my letter dated 12th March 2014 regarding the NUT national one day strike taking place on Wednesday 26th March 2014. The NUT has confirmed that over 30% of our teaching staff are members of the NUT and therefore may take strike action on Wednesday 26th March 2014. It is the case that union members do not need to declare their intentions regarding strike action until the morning of the strike.

As required, a risk assessment has been completed. The consequence of this risk assessment is that Hornsea School and Language College will be partially closed on Wednesday 26th March 2014.

The school will be closed to all pupils in Year 7 to Year 10 inclusive and therefore pupils in these four year groups should not attend school on Wednesday 26th March 2014.

School will remain open for Year 11 students and therefore all Year 11 students should attend school as normal. It is our intention to provide a normal timetabled day for these students however please can all students ensure they bring some private study in case this is not possible.

The sixth form will remain open and it is expected that all sixth form students with timetabled lessons will attend school as normal. I will not know until 8.30am on the day of the strike which sixth form lessons will take place. If the lesson is not able to take place due to the class teacher taking strike action then students will be expected to carry out private study within the sixth form study areas.

There will be a full home to school transport service for Year 11 and sixth form students.

Hornsea School and Language College will be fully open to all students in all year groups on Thursday 27th March 2014 but may I take this opportunity to advise that the school is fully closed to students in all year groups on Friday 28th March 2014. This is a Training Day as per the School Calendar.

I apologise for the inconvenience arising from the partial closure. Please contact Mrs Thompson, Headteacher’s PA, via the school office if this places you in particular difficulty.
